Well, that was me posting prematurely. What I was GOING to say was YES! Disturb the universe. Disturb me. I need it. Along with an epiphany. I love this drawing/painting of James. It probably says more than a perfectly rendered portrait. One of my favorite areas…the socks. More of these please.

Schiele is one of my favorite figurative artists along with Lucien Freud. I could study their work for hours, June. This piece speaks because it is not just a photographic take on the subject. There is emotion and feeling there. A man and his guitar and you have left us to fill in some of the color by posting this as is. Guidelines is correct. I have students who obsess wanting a perfect photographic replica of the figures they paint and they never progress beyond that want because they just keep stopping and starting. For me, it is more enjoyable to see an artists progress from painting to painting. It marks growth and somehow tells me something of the artist’s journey! Paint on like this. Some of our best inspiration comes from those who have gone before us. I like this piece.

Oh my goodness. I think these are really good! People can be painted in any color, really. I can identify with the yelps and intakes of breath. Portraits are the best at bringing on those outbursts. Good job, June!

YES! You have enriched my life. I’m so glad to see that you’ve posted. I’m very impressed that you are working on portraits and I think you’re doing a bang up job. I agree with you that watercolor can be both frightening and exciting since sometimes it has a mind of it’s own. (What? You don’t want a hard line here? Too bad, I’m making a hard line and there’s nothing you can do about it.! – watercolor)

I also see a bit of the Charles Reid style in your portraits which I like very much. You have a lovely watercolor style! The first portrait reminds me of Grace Kelly.

Here’s another technique you may be interested in: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grisaille I used it on one of my city-scapes, but I think it may work on a portrait.

I, too, am suddenly realizing that time is flying by. I’m sorry to hear about your friends and hope that perhaps they can put their lives back together. Your lettering is so colorful and you do bubbles well! I remember those bubbles from your old blog.

I knew you weren’t dead! And I’ve seen a snappy title or two from you. :) But inky doodle do works.

I very much like this pen and ink drawing of your waning hydrangea. The line work is exquisite, with the leaves contrasting nicely against the petals. And I also like your dots and splotches. So glad to see you back with a post.

Oh my. That is one “sick” logo. And watching your sproglet and his mates bounce their heads around to that heavy metal music actually had my head going up and down a little too.

While I don’t think I’ll be going to any of their live shows, I admire them for their energy and stick-to-it-ive-ness. (I could pass on the giant ear holes though.)

Looks like you absolutely hit the mark with the logo. It’s spot on for your son’s band. Rock on!

I’m late to respond!!!! I am so sorry as I have been waiting to see this logo FOREVER!. June, you did it. At least, in my book, you rose to the occasion. How did you create that textured background behind the logo? So much more effective than white or flat gray. Love the “T” and the “A” that hold the rest of the logo together. I agree. It is “SICK”.

The group? Awesome, too. I even checked out some of the videos. I could hear James lead guitar but I didn’t get to see him in the videos much. Thanks for sharing a photo of the band along with the logo. Has the order for shirts been placed? Is this already on the drumset?
